The female body is beautiful adapted to perform all major biological functions of a womens' life. We start being female at the moment of conception when the X ovum unites with an X sperm. This conjunction begins to effect our anatomy and hormonal patterns from the moment of fertilization. After just a few weeks of development , an embryo can be seen to be female; the ovaries already contain a lifetime’s complement of ova, many in excess of those shed monthly from the menarche to menopause. The labia, clitoris, vagina and primitive uterus are all present long before we are born.

The potent females hormones determine a cycle of monthly fertility making us the most fertile species on earth, the ovaries ovulate on alternate months. The uterus has two fallopian tubes with connecting tunnels and is a unique muscle. It is capable of exerting and extremely great force over a relatively short distance.

Any mothering instincts, partly engendered by our hormones, ensure that our children are suckled, cared for and loved in the early years of their development. The materal instinct can serve us well all our lives. It makes us particularly suited to the caring professions of social work, therapist, teaching, medicine and councseling and deferential; we tend to be peace loving and good arbitrators. The combination of hormones and biology determines what we are as women. The way we are perceived is another matter. Our bodies are often centers of attention, or as the objects of desire in magazines and advertising. It is important that we realize that there are definitely female with all that means to us as individuals to be molded or controlled by others and made to feel inadequade.

Our femaleness is a positive strength. We must accept our femaleness and make it a cause for celebration and pride. The concept of femaleness has room for all variations and permutations; of course there is no such thing as a model or average women. Individuality is one of greatest possessions and strengths-If we are proud of being female, we will be proud of it in any form. This means the rejection of all stereotyping and fashionable trends. Despite attempts by advertisers to present an unreal feminine ideal- the housewife who cares only for her white washing; the “dumb” blonde, or the weak, feeble creature who needs her suitcase carried- women all over the world emerge as distinct and different.
