Want to make changes in your life, but don’t know where to start?

Alternative therapies can help you to stop procrastinating and get motivated.

THE PROBLEM

How often stage of a new exercise routine , only to lose interest shortly afterwards? Or started a diet, only to break it a few days later? If this sounds like you, then you’re not alone. Keeping motivated is a common stumbling block for many people. Yet , no matter how much you want to lose weight, get fit or land an exciting new job, the reality is that unless you can summon up the motivation to make the necessary changes in your life, there’s little chance of achieving your goals. So, if that’s the case , why it is sometimes hard to keep motivated?

LONG-TERM BENEFITS

There are all sorts of reasons why people find it hard to keep motivated. Lack of confidence and low self-esteem will hinder motivation, because feeling this way can make you feel useless and prone to negative thoughts. Often , it may be that you are simply focusing on the wrong goals.’ Human nature is such that we don’t change unless there’s a substaintial gain. In other words the ‘payoff’ needs to be greater than the pain . For instance , if your goal is to lose a couple of kilos so that you look good at a friend’s wedding – this may not enough of an incentive.

After all, what’s one day of feeling slim, compared to the weeks of pleasure you can have from eating your favourite foods?? By making your goal so short –term and transient, you’re automatically setting yourself up to fail. What will your incentive be after the wedding ??If you really want to lose weight, you will need to have a goal that promises greater long-term benefits, such as feeling slimmer, healthier, fitter, more confident and generally happier about the way you look every day.

It’s also easy to get stuck if you’re not true to your own goals. A lot of people follow someone else’s vision, and not their own, for example , very often there isa pressure from parents , or a partner, to pursue goals, which may be at odds with what the person really wants to do. As a result , they have problems keeping motivated. Situations like this can have serious repercussions on a person’s health . Being stuck in a rut leads to all sorts of negative emotions. Eventually, these feelings-like any type of emotional stress-will lead to physical symptoms, such as headaches, stomach problems, insomnia and lethargy. Once your health becomes affected, it will be even more difficult to motivate yourself to make a change. The key to get staying motivated is always to try to do things that you enjoy. When you do what you love, it’s easy to excel and keep motivated . This principle can be applied to any area of your life, if you hate your job, but can’t think what else to do, for example, why not think about transforming a favourite pastime –such as writing- decorating or giving a good massage-into a money-making venture? All you need is the courage to take that first step. The rest will be easy.
