Your chances of giving up smoking for good depend on what approach you take .
Smoking is a physical and mental addiction, and stopping overnight can be difficult. It can also put you in a state of stress which is not which is not conducive to motivation. To quit smoking for good, you’ve got to quit smoking for good, you’ve got to work on changing your addictive pattern.
This can be done by first becoming a ‘conscious’ smoker. Smoking usually becomes an automatic response to certain situations, such as having a cup of coffee, talking on the telephone or after meal. With ‘conscious’ smoking every time you have a cigarette, make an effort to remain aware of what you are doing , instead of inhaling frantically , think about and ‘feel’ the whole process by concentrating on the sensations in your body . It’s also helpful to keep a diary . The more aware you become of every cigarette, the more you will be forced to consider whether you really want one or not . You can then try to hold off for longer- by taking a series of deep breaths, going for a short walk, or drinking water instead. This will help you to cut down and eventually give up.
Not convinced? Try it yourself. You will soon notice a difference in your attitude.
And once your attitude changes, so will the addictive behaviour.
