What you need:
• 8- by 2 1/2-inch piece of card stock or thin white cardboard.
• Colored markers, stickers or any flat decorations.
• Con-Tact paper
• Ribbon
What you do:
Draw a simple picture or decorate (with stickers, stamps or any other flat material).
Print the name of the person on the bookmark.
Make a hole in one end of the tag and tie a loop of ribbon through it for tying the tag to its package. Finally, laminate the tags with Con-Tact paper to make them long lasting.
Handprint Family Tree
What you need:
• Fabric paint
• Paintbrush
• a plain t-shirt or a piece of cloth for a wall hanging
• A permanent marker
• Scissors *Items in blue are for making the wall hanging*
• Fabric glue *Instructions 4 & 5 below as well*
• 1 yard of colored fabric
• 1 wooden dowel, 3 feet long and 1/2 inch thick
• Yarn
What you do:
Working from biggest to littlest hands, have each person dip her hands in her chosen paint and print them on the cotton fabric, overlapping the handprints slightly as the group moves up the tree.
Use a paintbrush to add a tree trunk and then let all the paint dry.
Identify each set of handprints with a permanent marker.
Cut around the handprints to form a tree shape.
Glue it to the background fabric, fold over a few inches at the top, and glue to make a sleeve for the dowel.
Felt Car Freshener
What you need:
• Felt (any color and shape - you choose)
• Scissors
• Glue
• String
• Essential oil (lavender, pine and cinnamon are all nice)
What you do:
• Start by cutting out felt shapes and gluing them together to create a flower, a heart, a butterfly or any other design you like.
• Make a small hole near the top and attach a loop of string.
• Apply a few drops of lavender, cinnamon or pine essential oil and hang the freshener in your car.
Hand Magnets
What you Need:
Thin cardboard or cardstock paper.
Scissors
Sticky backed magnet
Paint and a paint brush
What you do:
Paint your right hand with paint and make a handprint on the paper. Do the same thing with your left hand. Let the prints dry.
Cut around the outside of both handprints.
Put a piece of sticky-backed magnet on the back of each hand.
Put these handprints on your refrigerator.
Picture Frames
What you need:
8 large Popsicle sticks
glue
paint of any color (we chose red and white for Valentines Day)
stickers
a photo
cardboard (cut slightly smaller than the Popsicle stick frame)
magnetic disks or sheets (found at any craft store)
What you do:
Glue the Popsicle sticks together as shown above. I did this the night before.
Let the child paint the frame. Dry completely.
Attach any stickers or decorations. Little fake flowers are nice for Mother's Day.
Glue the photo to the cardboard.
Glue the cardboard to the frame.
Attach the magnets on the back.
