If driving in the 1970s was synonymous with freedom, it would seem that driving is a source of anxiety and stress, at least among drivers. This is certainly the conclusion of a survey conducted for the Nissan brand cars.
According to this study, more than French in two (53%) reports being tense when it comes to driving in town. Several explanations are given but the prospect of having to find a place to park is at the top end of the most anxiety (57% of drivers), followed immediately afterwards by the anguish of congestion (48%).
Other factors identified stress, always among women are: losing its way (46%), driving during severe weather (42%) or the idea of having to make a niche in a narrow (40 %).
Note that external factors are not the only culprit. Indeed, more than one in three French said anxiety when driving next to their partner and almost one in five (18%) when there are children on board.
Despite this stress "important", it would seem that the French are actually pretty "zen". A comparative study at the same time was led by Nissan at the British and the Italians. They are respectively 70% and 63% to be stressed at the wheel!
To alleviate the stress inherent in driving, two thirds (66%) listen to music, 45% open the window and 17% are breathing exercises. So many tricks to try to relax at the wheel ...
Among the stressors considered in this study, there is no mention of the fear of cameras or Constable. So simple forgetfulness or lack of need?
