Inspiring Beauty

It seems to be hard-wired into our genes to want to be attractive and beautiful. The cosmetic industry knows it, and so do cosmetic surgeons–and their profits continue to pour in. But there are secrets to an ageless and infinite beauty that is within reach of all of us, without makeup, chemical peels, botox, or the surgeon’s knife.

These six principles of transcendent beauty are worth being passed along to your friends: they are real keepers. Read them here:

1) You must feel beautiful before you can look beautiful

As the old saying goes, "There is no cosmetic for beauty like happiness." When we connect with our inner beauty (which we can do with meditation), we connect with an ageless, infinite, and divine beauty that exists within all of us.

Youthful beauty fades with time, but, with cultivation, inner beauty grows richer.

The good news is that it’s never too late or too soon to evolve your inner beauty. A good place to start is to create self-awareness by locating your passions and using them positively to create self-satisfaction. Then your inner beauty will grow and radiate to your outer self.

Take time to find your unique gifts and develop them. Get motivated to create self-satisfaction and a positive self-image. If you do this, you will make your life richer and more meaningful. Here are a few insightful quotes about personal development to ponder.

  • "Go confidently into the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler." – Henry David Thoreau
  • "Develop interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music – the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself." – Henry Miller
  • "Often people attempt to live their lives backward: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so that they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who your really are, then, do what you need to do, in order to have what you want." – Margaret Young.
  • "Life shrinks and expands in proportion to one's courage." -Anais Nin
  • "Always leave enough time in your life to do something that makes you happy, satisfied, even joyous. That has more of an effect on economic well-being than any other single factor."-Paul Hawken
  • "He who knows others is wise; he who know himself is enlightened." -Lao-tzu

2) Get past the ordeal by mirror

We need to get past the compulsion that drives us to root out our tiny imperfections and then feel guilt and shame when we see our reflections as inadequate. We need to get rid of negative feelings that cloud our vision of ourselves and instead begin to see ourselves the way our loved ones see us. And it also wouldn’t hurt to get rid of all our magnifying mirrors, which magnify "flaws", and instead use lighting that enhances our reflections when we look into our non-magnifying mirrors!

  • Believe that you have an inner self to explore and that you are willing to let yourself develop your innate talents and gifts.
  • Create 2-3 positive affirmations, such as "My creativity is my gift, as I am open to it, I will be led." Or "I am a wonderfully gifted and I am growing better every day." Repeat your affirmations 10 time each every morning to motivate yourself to grow, learn and experience the things you are passionate about.
  • Treat yourself to personal time away from family and friends to do something that makes you feel happy and fulfilled at least once a week.
  • Keep a private journal and write in it faithfully everyday. Let the distractions, injuries, worries, plans, hopes and ideas flow from your brain to the paper. This will help to clear your mind, focus on what is positive and release ideas and beliefs that may be holding you back.
  • Take time regularly to go inward with meditation or prayer.

3) Take responsibility for your own happiness

Think of your inner self as a lighthouse standing steady with a constant beam despite the buffeting of the surrounding ocean. How powerful it is to envision your inner self as a sanctum protected from the vagaries of the outer world! It can also be empowering to analyze our situation, choose to be happy despite the aspects you can’t control, and take positive steps to change what you can control.

You Make Choices, and Your Choices Have Consequences

Taking responsibility means that you acknowledge your role in the chain of events, you have a good idea why it happened, and you know what to do to change your actions (or how to keep them as they are) in the future to get your desired outcome.

Here are the Steps You Need to Take

The great thing about taking responsibility is that it opens the door to anything you want. You get to decide what in your life you want to keep and what should go. How does one get to this point? It’s really quite simple. Begin by letting go of the negative emotions and self-limiting beliefs that are causing you to be stuck in a victim mentality. We ALL have this ability, however so many of us are too bogged down by negative emotions to really use it. Once you make up, you will be able to release the need you once had to blame others and instead will take personal responsibility. The best part is, once you FEEL you are in charge (instead of a victim), you will ACT like you are in charge, and your life will act accordingly. You will also find that you can easily adopt the following positive traits of people who take responsibility, including:

  • Accepting when you’re wrong and apologizing
  • Asking others for help when you need it
  • Having empathy for others
  • Admitting when you’ve made a mistake
  • Forgiving others easily
  • Being open-minded to the opinions of others
  • Believing that your life is meant to be greatAnd remember, once you let go of self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviors, your life will be limitless in the happiness, health and wellbeing it will create for you and those around you.

4) Live in the present

One of the often overlooked ways to recognize the beauty within you is to concentrate on living in the present and to avoid basing your actions and feelings on thought and memories of the past. If you can become aware of this tendency, even for just for brief moments during your life, you’ll come to understand that others’ reactions to you are the result of what you project. If you want to elicit positive reactions from those around you, you need to express positive emotions and perform affirmative acts. From the beauty viewpoint, living in the present means accepting yourself as you are while not denying yourself as you were or might be.

Well, you start with "awareness".

a. Be conscious of what you are thinking. Make a mental note whenever you find yourself focusing on something negative. Are there certain things that come up more than other things? Most likely, your negative feelings are based in something from your past, or something you fear in your future.

b. Write down on a piece of paper, some of the negative thoughts that are coming up more than others. Just try for two or three right now, you don’t want to be overwhelmed. If in a few days, you find that this exercise was helpful, then by all means, go back and work on a few more issues. Just take it slow, no rush, no pressure.

c. Look at these negative thoughts for a minute. The ones that are from your past, even if it was just yesterday, put a "P" next to them. The ones that are worries or fears of something in your future, even if it is tomorrow, mark with an "F".

d. Take some time to "brain-storm" with these thoughts. Are they things that are totally out of your control? Or something from your past, that there is no way to change? Put a line through any of those types of thoughts. Anything still on the paper, take some time to jot down different ideas of how you might reconcile the issue. There is no right or wrong way to do this. Be as brief or as detailed with this as you would like to be.Doing this should be easy, since you are now aware of them, and know what you can control and what you can’t. Now you can replace those thoughts, with the things that right now (the present moment), you are grateful for. Just be at peace with this moment, and with yourself. Now, think about this. The only moment in which we can truly be happy, is the present moment. The only moment that we have control of, is the present moment. So let go of the negative thoughts, and be happy now!

5) Surround yourself with beauty

Surrounding yourself with beauty–both tangible and intangible–is a time-honored technique for nurturing your soul. Keep living plants in your home. Clothe yourself in beautiful garments–or, rather, garments that make you feel beautiful. Keep company with people who elevate and people who love you and show their love. Whether you believe in fortunes or fate, your life is yours to shape. And the most important and positive decision you can make is to bring beauty into your life.

Begin to find more about yourself and what brings you inspiration and joy. Be challenged to create your space into something that reminds and inspires you to live a more beautiful life. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful. But what does it mean to feel truly beautiful on the outside and the inside? Beauty is an attitude. Surround yourself with those who inspire you to recognize your inner beauty. Fresh flowers are one of the best ways to lift the spirits. There´s no sin in buying them for yourself. Better yet, drop subtle hints to your significant other and well, you never know... Schedule regular facials and massages to lower stress hormones.

6) Do at least one thing a day that inspires you

CREATE SOME "ME" TIME FOR YOURSELF. Take your daily bath at night before bed for a relaxation and restful sleep. Use body washes, lotions and sprays with calming botanical accents and floral scents such as bamboo, decaffeinated red tea and sandalwood. This will help you let your cares drift away to calm the mind and restore the soul. For a calming evening bath, add a bath product with chamomile.

Feel it out. Inner beauty is less about what you see when you look at a person and more about how you feel when you are around a person. You will feel safe, calm, inspired and connected when in the presence of a beautiful spirit. Drawing attention to the inner beauty of others will encourage them to cultivate their inner beauty even further. Surround yourself with people who make appreciating inner beauty a top priority. Attitudes, values and perspectives are just as contagious as the flu, so if you want more inner beauty in your life, you need to spend time with people who share your healthy ideals. Whatever feeds your soul and makes it sing.
