Since before history, indigenous cultures have been using healing clays such as montmorillonite, bentonite, and illite for centuries in natural medicine and pelotherapy. Natives of North America utilized a wide variety of clays for healing, food/body purification, and spiritual ceremonies. The Egyptians used clay extensively in their spiritual culture. The Essences (famed authors of the Dead Sea Scrolls) used clay as a primary modality for natural healing, aware of its incredible power to heal a wide variety of conditions. The Amargosians, the Aborigines, and natives of Mexico and South America all recognized the benefits of the clays. One of the most common forms of Green Healing Clay is Bentonite, an Aluminum Silicate smectite. It often contains substantial amounts of magnesium and a wide variety of trace minerals. Through its natural evolution, bentonite also selectively absorbs an interesting variety of organic material. Healing clay is distinguished primarily by the "secondary" materials which both:a) maintain its natural characteristic to be precisely PH balanced (basic/alkaline) for the mammalian biological systemb) leave the clay with an incredibly dense molecular makeup which produces a self-generated negatively charged electromagnetic field upon hydration

Thus each element that the Green Clay consists of, is responsible for working the outer epidermis (skin) in its own way and in dispensing their biological constituents as best as possible. The highly micronized, and often fragile molecular state of the green clay allows for far greater absorption of impurities, dust, oil, contaminants, and make up then other clays, and when seeking treatment for the skin, health professionals will always choose Green clays over other varieties.

Various Types of Clays

Green Clay

Green clay is the most absorbent of all the clays and is ideal to use in facemasks for the treatment of acne, oily and neglected skin. Applied to the face or body, green clay cleanses, exfoliates, smoothes and softens the skin. It is especially good at drawing out toxins.

Pink Clay

This clay is cleansing and toning to the skin and is suitable for use on all skin types. The softening effect of pink clay refines the skin's texture while toning the epidermis.

Yellow Clay

Yellow improves the condition of devitalized and tired looking skin. It is highly recommended for joints, skin problems, and for extreme fatigue.

Red Clay

Red Clay is very useful tonic for convalescence and because of its iron content, good for fatigue and anaemia.

How to Store

These clays should not be stored in plastic containers or use plastic utensils when preparing clays as they can absorb impurities. They should be stored in glass or porcelain containers, and preparations should be mixed using wooden or porcelain spatulas or spoons.
